CAPT LETTER

February, 2010

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) for the 2010 school year will be administered to all members of the sophomore class beginning Tuesday, March 2, 2010.  The test will be given on Tuesday, March 2, Wednesday, March 3, Thursday, March 4, Tuesday, March 9, Wednesday, March 10, and Thursday, March 11, 2010.

All students are expected to attend school on those days for an abbreviated schedule. Please refer to the attached schedule for more detailed information.

• Juniors and seniors who do not need to re-take any portion of the test will be dismissed at 9:03am on those dates. Bus transportation will be provided for these students at 9:10am.

•  All sophomores and freshmen are expected to be in school from 7:30am until the end of the testing period. Bus transportation will be provided at the conclusion of the testing period.

It is very important for all students in Grade 10 to come to school every day during CAPT testing and to be well rested and prepared to do their best on the CAPT. Students taking CAPT will be given snacks provided by the school during their breaks between tests. Students will not have access to the cafeteria vending machines during the testing periods.

Freshmen will take a practice CAPT to help them prepare for next year’s CAPT.  The practice CAPT for the freshman will follow the same schedule as the sophomore CAPT.  Students taking the freshmen practice CAPT will not be given snacks and are encouraged to bring their own.

There will be no lunch served on these days. Buses will take the students home after the tests are completed. Please refer to the schedule as the testing times fluctuate.

Parents are asked to support their students in helping them achieve the best that they can during these tests. Students who meet state goals will receive several levels of recognition. Those students who do not reach proficiency (score 3 or better) on the CAPT will be given mandatory remediation classes, after school, prior to graduation ranging from 20 to 30 hours. Passing CAPT or completing CAPT remediation classes, in the subject areas where the proficiency is not reached, is a requirement for graduation.

If you have any questions about CAPT or the CAPT administration at WHHS, please contact Dr. Patricia Whitney at WHHS at 937-4360 ext. 340. Good luck to all of our test takers this year.
